Performance Energy Services (Performance), established in 2011, is a private oilfield service company, based in Calgary, Alberta, that specializes in remedial cementing and well servicing.

Prior to starting Performance, Scott Darling, President and CEO, ran a well servicing company called Performance Well Servicing (PWS), founded in 2004. PWS implemented Spira Data in 2008 and successfully ran their entire operations using Spira’s ORP™ software shortly after installation. After the successful sale of PWS, there was no question, no decision to make, when Performance Energy Services formed; they immediately implemented Spira.

Implementing a Proven Solution

At inception, Performance acquired a few nitrogen pumpers and crews. At the job site, personnel filled out paper field tickets and sent those into the back office for payroll and invoicing, but for a very short period of time as they implemented Spira. When starting Performance, the leadership team knew that they needed software that could scale with them as they grow, a system that is versatile enough to handle multiple business lines as Performance expands; and they knew that solution to be Spira through the benefits experienced firsthand at PWS.

Performance needed a system that was based on an industry accepted platform and delivered by an organization that understands the fundamentals of the field services business. Spira’s ORP™ provided Performance with a field operations system that inherently has the capability they need to streamline data from the point of entry to the final point of processing.

Streamlined Processes

The flexibility of the Spira platform allowed Performance to tailor the jobs and tickets to match their business requirements. The out-of-the-box options of data capture fields—from drop downs, dates, numeric, free form—enforced accurate data entry and made reporting easy.

With Spira, the back-office group can create and dispatch jobs to the field or have the field staff create jobs once they arrive onsite. Ticket information is captured in the field using the Spira mobile application and then submitted to the back office; all the data is reviewed and approved in system and ultimately flows through to invoicing and payroll. The process of rekeying and reconciling data is eliminated, which allows Performance to maintain a lean back-office and provides a high level of confidence that invoices and paychecks are 100% accurate.

Over the years, Performance acquired two companies. But because Performance streamlined their operations with Spira, they experienced zero increases in general and administrative expenses (G&A) while still maintaining the highest level of quality and customer service.

More than a Field Data Capture Application

As a result of leveraging Spira and its features, Performance is completely paperless at the job site. Even purchase orders are submitted through the Spira mobile app for review and approval while on the job.

As data is captured at the source, and all data resides in one system, Spira provides powerful and timely operational reports and dashboards—it is as up to date as the last field ticket entered. The visibility into near real-time revenue and asset utilization broken out by product lines enables Performance to make decisions proactively and provides a reliable operational indicator for the business.
